The COVID-19 pandemic has changed our lives in ways that we could not have foreseen just weeks ago. We are thinking about the health and safety of our families, adjusting to a new type of normal, and are overwhelmed with news that changes by the minute.
People feel helpless to fight against an invisible enemy. But this virus, like all viruses, does not have much of a chance to beat a healthy immune system! This virus and all other viruses can and will be handled by the immune system.
Though the shelter in place order is in effect, we may be shut in, but this is not the time to stop caring for yourself. The most important steps to prevent a problem with any virus, no matter how strong it is, are to become very healthy.
You can take immediate steps to improve your health and build your immune system if you know what to do, and what to avoid.

Improve your diet ImmediatelyList Item 1
Eat a plant-based diet that is high in healthy plant fats (such as avocados, seeds, nuts), high nutritional value and antioxidants such as leafy greens (spinach, kale), cruciferous (broccoli, cauliflower), root vegetables (beets).

Eat Garlic dailyList Item 2
Start with at least 1 to 2 cloves per day (fresh, uncooked), and gradually increase to 5 per day. It is an excellent immune stimulant. Research shows that garlic contains compounds with potent medicinal properties. The sulfur-based compounds from garlic are considered anti-inflammatory, anti-high cholesterol, anti-diabetes, anti-bacterial, anti-parasite, anti-cancer, and anti-fungal. A great way to add it to your day is to combine it with another phenomenal food, Avocado; Mix crushed Garlic with mashed Avocado/ Guacamole. (Avocados are packed with important nutrients; improves healthy gut flora by acting as a prebiotic, is anti-fungal, anti-inflammatory).

- Alcohol: Reduces the number and function of three important kinds of cells in your immune system–macrophages, T and C cells.
- Smoking: Smoke paralyzes the protective tiny hair-like structures in the lungs called cilia, which otherwise sweep dirt and bacteria out of your lungs.
- All forms of Sugar: Stay away from anything that tastes sweet or that is processed in any way because it causes immune suppression. The worst foods, besides refined sugars and starches, are also dairy products, which clog up your system and slow down your immune response.

- Probiotics and Prebiotics: Your immune system and gut are intimately connected. It’s estimated that as much as 80% of your immune system resides within your gut. An out-of-balance gut/microbiome can weaken your immune system. Go to bed early and get enough Sleep
Your body heals most when you are sleeping. Your immune system regenerates itself with 7-8 hrs. of restful sleep. Go to bed as close to 8 PM as possible. Pre-midnight sleep has a bonus effect on healing.

Maintain Good Oral Health
Research has shown that your oral health is strongly connected to your immune system function. An oral infection such as an abscess, gum disease causes inflammation, which in turn affects the immune system. If you have better oral health, you can expect to have better overall health and fewer illnesses.
To protect your oral health, practice good oral hygiene daily:
- Floss daily
- Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a soft-bristled brush

Exercise daily
Walking is one of the best exercises to boost your immune system. 20 minutes a day gives stress relieving benefits! Remember to not overdo it; under times of stress, too much exercise can deplete your system and make it weaker.

Pray, Meditate and have Gratitude
Scientists discovered that prayers and meditations that focus on thankfulness and gratitude will increase the coherence and communication between your heart’s nervous system and your brain’s nervous system. This improved heart and brain communication allows you to be in a peaceful, healing state.

Keep a Positive Mental Attitude
Read or listen to uplifting music, jokes, songs, or positive speakers… Do what makes you feel HAPPY!

Continually remember to:
- Wear a face mask
- Wash hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds and use Hand Sanitizer: If you cannot find hand sanitizer: You can make the following at home: Mix 1/3 cup isopropyl alcohol (70% or higher alcohol) with 1 oz of lemon juice, and 15 drops of tea tree oil.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth
- Stay at home when you are sick
- Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw it away
- Practice ‘social distancing’. Keep a distance of 3-6 feet between you and those you encounter
